Abstract

Windows are an important building element as they are the entrance for sunlight into the building. Window position and orientation are carefully considered so that the intensity of the incoming light can maximally support the activities inside. The purpose of this research is to observe how the combination of changes in the height of a window and its orientation direction affects the natural lighting in the room. This research uses a quantitative method with a simulation approach. From the simulation results, it can be analyzed that changes in window height affect the sunlight entered into the building. The placement and orientation of a window can change how sunlight enters the building. In terms of light distribution, windows with heights above 60 cm are able to illuminate the room better than the height below. The best orientation for window placement is north and south orientation. Window placement in the east and west needs conditioning because it is in the path of sun movement.
