Study of a boundary layer problem in elastic composite materials

Abstract

The homogenization approach has been used to determine the local stresses near the free boundary in a stratified elastic material with periodic structure. It is assumed that the microscopic displacements and stresses are periodic in the direction of stratification. Numerical results, demonstrating increased accuracy in the calculation of stresses due to the inclusion of the boundary layer terms, are given.
