Abstract

The author details the implementation of team-based learning (TBL) in a graduate-level special education class. TBL use has grown in popularity in colleges of business and in the sciences; however, few applications of TBL in other areas of higher education are documented in the literature. A traditional lecture format was replaced by individual and team quizzes, application exercises, and individual and team assignments. Results from the analysis of data show that students performed significantly higher on the TBL team quizzes than they did prior to the application of TBL or during the TBL individual quizzes. The benefits and challenges of TBL are also discussed. (Contains 2 tables and 1 footnote.)
