Abstract
This paper includes 10 cases of recurrent painful ophthalmoplegia. In addition to complete clinical investigations in all 10 cases, neurologic examination, routine laboratory investigations of blood, urine, stools, and cerebrospinal fluid were performed; complete thyroid investigation was demanded for the 8 adults, as well as special rheumatoid test, sedimentation rate, and research of antinuclear factors. LRC cells were done in all cases. Temporal artery biopsy was performed in all adults; all the patients had standard radiologic investigations including study of the sphenoidal fissure and sinuses, complete angiographic study (arteriography and phlebography). 8 patients were explored with CAT. Three patients who had alternance of Tolosa-Hunt syndrome and attacks of orbital pseudotumor were excluded from the study. patients were given 60 mg prednisone daily. In 9 cases the pain disappeared within 2 days and in 9 cases ophthalmoplegia regressed after 8 days. Only one of the patients who had surgery improved more slowly and partially.
