Disaster Mitigation of Slum-Scale Fires in Jongaya Village at Tamalate

Abstract

There are exactly about 834 fire cases occurred in Makassar City during 2016 to 2020. Tamalate Subdistrict being one of several subdistricts get the highest number of fire cases which was about 108 cases. The worst fire cases occurred in Jongaya Village around 2021. The fire caused the damage of 110 houses. Mitigation efforts are needed to prevent similar events from occurring. The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of risk fire disaster and formulate fire disaster mitigation directions that are in accordance with the characteristics of the residential environment at the research site. The analytical techniques used are qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis, spatial, and scoring. The results showed that the study site was included high density with a density 92.24 buildings per hectare. The level of fire disaster risk is dominated by buildings with a classification of high fire risk (67%). Mitigation directive efforts are focused on location directions for the placement of portable fire pumps and fire engines, directions for the location of water filling of fire trucks, as well as directions for circulation of evacuation routes and temporary gathering points.
