Abstract

OS KARIRI-XOCÓ localizam-se no Baixo São Francisco, Estado de Alagoas no nordeste do Brasil. A cerâmica utilitária é uma das atividades básicas enquanto geração de renda, sendo produzida e comercializada por mulheres. O texto é uma nota prévia sobre a história desta cerâmica, abordando o dia a dia, as expectativas e a condição de vida das louceiras.THE KARIRI-XOCÓ inhabit the lower São Francisco region in the state of Alagoas, in northeastern Brazil. Utilitarian pottery is one of their basic income-generating activities and the ceramic artifacts are produced and marketed by women. This essay is a foreword on the history of this kind of ceramics and depicts the day-to-day of the potters, their expectations and their way of living.
