Abstract
The objective of this study is to examine the reinterpretation of historical and social events in biographical films in order to ascertain whether female characters are simplified by stereotypes and to assess the evolution of their portrayal. Qualitative analysis was employed to analyse the portrayal of women in different periods in terms of promoting gender equality and challenging stereotypes in films through three biographical films spanning different periods, namely "Oppenheimer" "Byron" and "Shadowlands". The findings of the analysis indicate that the depiction of women's roles in biographical films includes some oversimplified stereotypes that obscure their actual roles in historical events.
