THE ROLE OF THE KHALWATIYAH SAMMAN ORDER IN STRENGTHENING POLITICAL ETHICS IN MAROS REGENCY

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Khalwatiyah Samman Sufi Order in reinforcing political ethics within the context of Maros Regency. As a deeply rooted Sufi order in Indonesia, the Khalwatiyah Samman Order has exerted substantial influence on shaping political behavior and moral values at the local level. The research seeks to elucidate the extent to which the Khalwatiyah Samman Order contributes to the cultivation of ethical political practices in Maros Regency. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, including religious leaders (mursyid of the Khalwatiyah Samman Order), local authorities, and community members actively engaged in the order. This is further supported by an extensive review of literature, encompassing the historical development and fundamental principles of the Khalwatiyah Samman Order, theoretical frameworks on political ethics and moral development, and the sociopolitical contributions of Sufi orders within the Indonesian context. The findings of this study underscore the pivotal role of the Khalwatiyah Samman Order in promoting core values such as humility, tolerance, and integrity—values that are instrumental in fostering sound political ethics. Moreover, the research provides critical insights into the intersection of religion, spirituality, and the cultivation of ethical governance, highlighting the significant contributions of the Sufi tradition to the enhancement of political morality in Maros Regency
