The Impact of Caliph Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz's Economic Policy on the Welfare of the Daula Umawiyah Community

Abstract

Umawiyah dynasty is the first dynasty in the Islamic world after the leadership of Khulafaur Rasyiddin ended. This dynasty has brought very rapid progress in the spread of Islam throughout the world, one of the figures is Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz, he was a caliph who had succeeded in leading his people even though his reign was only 2 years and 6 months. The approach in this study uses historical studies using library research resources. The conclusion is that at the time of Umar, the largest source of revenue was obtained from the Zakat and Kharaj sectors, coupled with other state revenues, such as Fay, jizyah, usyur, ghanimah. State expenditures are used for the benefit of the people with the principle of justice and expenditures for the benefit of the state are carried out with the principle of prudence. The implications of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz's economic policy are increasing people's purchasing power, increasing people's welfare, no poor people, decreasing tax burden, many converts, and a sense of security and comfort.
