Abstract

The kinetics and mechanism of forskolin oxidation by the Fe(III) - 1,10-phenanthroline complex (((Formula presented.)), (Phen)) have been studied in a perchloric acid medium. This reaction is of the first order in Fe(III) and forskolin. Synchronistic study showed that an increase in [Phenanthroline] increases the rate of the reaction. The conventional spectroscopic study results are the basis for defining the exact reactive species of the reactants that act on the substrate. At the same time, the product formation rate was altered by the solvent, and the temperature conditions proved that the use of the least amount of acid was more favorable for this reaction. Finally, the oxidant is favored in the form of complex [Fe(Phen)3]3+ ((Formula presented.)), conclusively the possible reaction mechanism discussed with experimental evidenced kinetic results.
