Abstract

Family knowledge of dental and oral hygiene plays an important role in the health of family members. A person is said to be healthy, not only a healthy body but also a healthy oral cavity and teeth. Dental and oral health plays a very important role in supporting the health of a person's body. Dental and oral health problems are a very important concern in health development, especially for inpatients. Oral Hygiene is one of the actions needed to keep the mouth from infection, clean and freshen the mouth, so it is very important to have knowledge from the family, especially in the maintenance of dental and oral health of hospitalized patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family knowledge and oral hygiene status of inpatients at Pertamina Jaya Hospital, Central Jakarta. The research method used observational analytic with a cross sectional research design. The population of all families and inpatients is 28 people with accidental technique. The measuring instrument uses a questionnaire and an OHI-S examination format. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that the level of knowledge of the patient's family about maintaining oral and dental health was mostly in the good category (67.9%), dental and oral hygiene status in hospitalized patients was in the medium category (71.4%). The results of the Chi-Square test showed that there was a relationship between family knowledge about dental and oral health maintenance with dental and oral hygiene status of hospitalized patients with p- value 0.001 < 0.05. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between family knowledge about dental and oral health maintenance with the dental and oral hygiene status of inpatients at Pertamina Jaya Hospital, Central Jakarta.
