CARACTERIZACIÓN CLINICOEPIDEMIOLÓGICA DE ADULTOS CON DIABETES MELLITUS PERTENECIENTES AL CLUB DE DIABÉTICO DE RIOBAMBA

Abstract

Introduction: diabetes mellitus is the chronic non-communicable disease that generates the greatest number of complications, being considered one of the leading causes of direct and indirect mortality, both in the world and in Ecuador. Objective: to characterize clinically and epidemiologically the diabetic patients belonging to the diabetic club of the General Provincial Hospital of Riobamba. Methodology: a basic investigation was carried out, with a mixed approach and descriptive and correlational scope, in a total of 108 diabetic patients who form belong to the diabetic club of the General Provincial Teaching Hospital of Riobamba. A research questionnaire was applied to collect the information related to the objective of the study. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to identify correlation between variables. Results: average age of 57.43 years with a predominance of female patients (70.37), from urban areas (74.07%) and with married marital status (52.78%). The predominant educational level was secondary (56.48%) and the low economic level (64.81%). There was a predominance of patients with nutritional disorders due to excess (66.67%), type 2 diabetes mellitus (82.41%), time of evolution of the disease between 3 and 5 years (47.22%) and with the presence of complications (68.52%). Conclusions: the clinical epidemiological characteristics of diabetic patients in the diabetic club correspond to what has been reported internationally. A considerable positive correlation was found between nutritional status and the presence of disease complications.
