Abstract

This article discusses the reception of Heleieth Saffioti's work, with emphasis on the book A mulher na sociedade de classes: mito e realidade [published in English as Women in class society], in the Brazilian Social Sciences and Humanities over the last five decades. The purpose of the article is to show how the circulation of Saffioti's work remained irregular and how it dialogues with gender and feminist studies in the country. To this end, we analyze the citations to this particular author's work, as well as investigate the dynamics of formation and consolidation of the field of gender studies in Brazil.
