Abstract
One of essential water source of water for people in around Central and Eastern Java, namely Bengawan Solo River, indicated several water quality deteriorations. This study aims to assess the Bengawan Solo River's water quality status from 2020 to 2022, specifically at Juranggempal monitoring post in Wonogiri District. The widely recognized STORET method is used in the assessment to look at the current state of water quality. According to the results, there has been notable deterioration in the water quality, with STORET scores decreased from a score of -68 in 2020 to -86 in 2022, while both indicate heavily polluted conditions. As for the water quality parameters that discovered to exceed the established quality limits such as pH, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), nitrites, ammonia, phosphate, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), chlorine, sulfides, arsenic, phenols, detergents, Total coliform, and Fecal coliform. Several activities that were predicted as generators of these pollutants along riverbanks were industrial activities, livestock farming, domestic discharges, and agricultural runoff. This study emphasizes the critical need for effective pollution prevention and water management strategies to minimize the environmental impact on the Bengawan Solo River. To restore and preserve the water quality of this significant river system for the nearby communities, it is necessary to tackle these sources of pollution.
