Abstract

Progress in the physics of ultracold neutrons (UCN), starting from the early experiments is reviewed. The problems dealt with the author under the supervision of F.L. Shapiro are described. It is shown how the solution of these problems became progressively clearer and how their relation to other questions of physics were established. The present status of UCN physics is reviewed and prospects are discussed.
