Abstract
The recent developments in schools have brought in significant changes to the traditional class room teaching practices. The review focuses on the four dimensions of the work system, i.e., environment, technology, course, and human-factor through which the teaching-learning occurs. The man-machine interactions demands both physical and cognitive demand and influence the ergonomic outcomes and performance outcomes. The review indicates that for effective learning, student's new learning patterns, evolving education technologies and methodologies needs to be better understood by all stakeholders, i.e., students, teachers, administrators and evaluators, technology and communication providers. Few issues relating to user centred display-control devices; span of attention in a blended multi-media interactive environment; cognitive loads and the role played by soft systems; configuration of technology vis-a-vis user and course; ergonomic design methods that accounts for 'physical configurations', flexible 'course' and 'user' dimensions; and support at institutional level for technology adoption.
