Abstract

Practicum activities in the laboratory and constructivism have an important role in science learning. However, due to limited tools and materials, as well as time, practicum activities were eliminated. So that technology innovation is needed to overcome it. One of them is the virtual science laboratory media. This study aims to see constructivist learning using a virtual science laboratory with a combination of practicum to improve critical thinking. The design in this study was the pretest-posttest control group design. The trial was carried out on students who were three classes, two classes as the experimental class and the other class as the control class which was taken randomly (cluster random sampling) from a homogeneous population. The results showed that a good virtual science laboratory and real practicum can improve the learning environment to be more constructivist. The use of a virtual laboratory combined with a practicum can improve critical thinking skills higher than the use of a virtual science laboratory alone or just a real practicum.
