Abstract
Dementia is a condition in which a person experiences a decrease in memory and thinking abilities. The decrease will cause disruption to the function of life and the fulfillment of daily needs. ADL is a measure of the ability of the elderly to carry out independent activities. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between dementia and ADL in Wangandalem Tegal. This type of quantitative research using Cross Sectional, where the independent variable is dementia and the dependent variable is ADL. Sampling by purposive sampling as many as 73 elderly. Data collection techniques used a Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) questionnaire to determine the level of dementia and a Katz Index questionnaire that had been modified by the researcher and tested for validity and reliability. Statistical test using Kendall's tau obtained value = 0,000 (p <0,05) which means there is a relationship between dementia and ADL. Characteristics of the elderly based on age at most 69 years of age with more female sex than men and the most elderly education is not in school. Moderate dementia and mild dependence predominated in this study.
