Abstract

The concept of a design storm is widely used as the basis for drainage system design and for the assessment of hydrologic impacts of land development. However, the design storm concept is frought with conceptual error when used to simplify engineering analysis by unrealistic assumptions. The potential for error in using this concept is so large that design storm practices should be either curtailed or applied only in the strictest of circumstances. © 1986 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
