Ethical-political dimension of citizen training in higher education

Abstract

Citizen training is a topic of ethical and political interest, with a notable presence within university discussions, which aim to address asymmetric scenarios present in the 21st century. Starting from these premises, the article aims to analyze the ethical-political dimension of citizenship training in higher education, considering the following aspects: A brief synthesis of the conceptual meaning of citizenship; point out the ethical-political dimension of higher education, which affects the formation of the integral human being, which includes axiological and deontological training and the political nature of participatory action within the community; and indicate the relevance of citizen training in higher education, recognizing the importance it has for the material progress of people. The research design is qualitative, applying the hermeneutic-documentary method. Among the main results, it is distinguished that citizen training promotes community meetings, encourages inclusion, respect, and political activism, with the transformation of society in mind. It concludes with the urgency of rethinking the direction of higher education, directing it towards the fight against adverse social contexts, homogenization of knowledge, ensuring the formation of free citizens.
