Abstract

There are a variety of celebrations. Those which are recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage are communal, unifying, mostly imposing and with a strong sense of identity or symbolism. The participants, who know the rules, come back to it for the time of a return to something known, joyful, perhaps reassuring and supporting. A reminder shot into our cultural and social roots.
