Abstract

Spheroplasts of two different auxotrophic strains of S. cerevisiae, both of mating type a, were fused with the aid of polyethylene glycol and calcium ions. After reversion to vegetative cells in solid media, the resulting zygotes were shown to be diploid cells of mating type aa.
