Abstract

Proper orthodontic preparation is critical to the success of orthognathic surgical procedures. Understanding the dental compensations that tend to be associated with certain malocclusion types helps to construct an appropriate treatment plan for each individual that maximizes the surgical benefit and stability. Theuse of a collaborative, teamapproach that includes proper planning, ongoing monitoring of progress, and communication between professionals and with the patient is critical.
