Abstract

The incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis and related tuberculous infections has markedly decreased in the United States. However, patients such as the one reported here are still seen on occasion with tuberculous otomastoiditis. This condition should be considered in any patient with a chronically draining ear that does not respond to antibiotic therapy. Patients with tuberculous otitis media frequently develop severe hearing loss and facial paralysis. Therapy is primarily medical, although in selected cases surgery may be necessary.
