Abstract
The National Ecosystem Assessment is an example of mounting enthusiasm for calculating the values of so-called ecosystem services. It may bring ecology closer to economy, and help us appreciate environmental influences on our wellbeing, yet it seems to assume that tangible and intangible factors can be put into the same equation.
