Chaetognath community and their responses to varying environmental factors in the northern Indian Ocean

Abstract

The ecology of the chaetognath community and its relation to varying environmental factors were studied in the eastern half of the northern Indian Ocean. Analysis of data from two major oceanographic programmes performed over four decades apart suggests a pronounced shift in the community composition and a poleward migration of chaetognaths. This migration has led to an aggregation in the north, as the Eurasian land mass prevents further movement beyond 30°N. © 2014 The Author. Published by Oxford University Press. All rights reserved.
