Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the legal challenges that face water law in Mexico after having being recognized in the Mexican Constitution in 2012. The need to adopt a secondary regulation based on the above right is also analized in this paper. Moreover, it is emphasized the convenience of using environmental economic instruments to get a good water management in the country, according to polluter pays principle. Finally, a review of the General Water Law is done, even if this proposal was not approved because of several factors, that are also related in this study.
