Abstract

The subject of this column is patents, inventions, and inventors. In this first installment of the column the focus is on an explanation of the meaning of a patent (often described as "intellectual property") given in conceptual comparison with "real property." The column is written with the needs of scientists and engineers in electrochemistry and materials science in mind.
