Abstract

The fresh bulbs of Lilium brownii var. colchesteri were found to contain five steroidal saponins: 26-0-/?-D-gluco-pyranosylnuatigenin 3-0-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(l ->2)-/J-D-glucopyranoside (6), 26-0-/J-D-glucopyranosylnuatigenin 3-0-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(l->2)-0-[/?-D-glucopyranosyl-(l->4)]-/J-D-glucopyranoside (7), brownioside (8), deacyl-brownioside (9) and 27-0-(3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaroyl)isonarthogenin 3-0-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(l->2)-O-[/?-D-glucopyranosyl-(l->4)]-/J-D-glucopyranoside (10); and two steroidal alkaloids: /^-solamargine (11) and solasodine 3-0-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(l->2)-0-[/f-D-glucopyranosyl-(l->4)]-/J-D-glucopyranoside (12); along with several phenolic constituents. Compounds 7, 10 and 12 are new naturally-occurring compounds. © 1990, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
