Abstract
Making a profit and competitive advantage during a crisis is difficult for an SME entrepreneur. About 90 percent of small firm entrepreneurs are underperformed and got failure because small firm entrepreneurs cannot deal with crises. On the other hand, in 10 percent of small firm, only 2 out of 5 succeeded. This study examines the factors influencing entrepreneurs’ performance during a crisis. 224 Padang restaurant entrepreneurs were involved because this study focuses on food and beverage as the best resilience sector. We performed SEM-AMOS to analyse data and configuration testing to have advance discussion. Moreover, we proposed specific intelligence considering human intelligence theory and crisis management approach as the essential characteristics for entrepreneurs. Our findings revealed that entrepreneurs' resilience positively affects entrepreneurs performance. The VUCA intelligence significantly moderates the relationship between entrepreneurs’ resilience and performance. According to configuration testing, an educated female entrepreneurs has more significant VUCA intelligence than male entrepreneurs. This study makes a contribution to the strategic management literature concerning psychological theories of entrepreneurship, through the presentation of psychological factors that influence the resilience of Padang restaurant entrepreneurs. Afterward, with regards to attribution theory, human intelligence theory, and crisis management theory, this study provides an explanation of how Padang restaurant entrepreneurs make attributions to an event and employ their intelligence to overcome crises that arise.
