Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that most often contaminates the hands. Hands are a medium of transmission of various diseases. This is caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi that stick to the hands when a person does activities. The best way to prevent the spread of bacteria is to wash your hands with soap and running water. However, in certain circumstances, the presence of water and soap is often an obstacle due to the unavailability to clean hands, so another alternative, namely the use of hand sanitizer gel, which is considered more practical, can be the main choice. This study objective to determine the formulation and antibacterial activity of hand sanitizer gel preparations containing plant extracts against staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The research method used in this study was a literature study with a total of 7 research articles in national journals. The results of the physical evaluation literature review showed that the hand sanitizer gel formulation containing rosella flower extract (F7) had the best physical evaluation results, complete, and met the requirements compared to other formulations. The results of the literature review of antibacterial activity showed that the formulation of hand sanitizer gel preparations that had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with very strong inhibition zone category was found in star fruit (F2) and soursop leaf (F4), while the strong inhibition zone category was found in tamarind fruit. gelugur (F1), fragrant pandan leaf (F3), Ambon banana peel (F5), cherry leaf (F6), and rosella flower (F7).
