Abstract

Describes Italian foundations equipment manufacturer Casagrande's new HT55 high torque rotary head drilling system. The crane-mounted system can drill large diameter piles and install steel casings for secant piled walls. Contractor Bachy has purchased units which are at work in central London. Rival Italian foundation manufacturer Soilmec has adopted a different approach for secant pile installation. The company's dual rotary head system is installed on a 60t class R-618 self-contained hydraulic piling rig. -J.M.McLaughlin
