Abstract

The key to electromagnetic compliance (EMC) for appliance producers is addressing EMI, RFI, and ESD at the most basic levels from the beginning of design projects, The age of EMC is upon us. An EMC Directive, including immunity requirements, has been in place in Europe for more than a year now. The World Health Organization is undertaking a 5-year assessment of the health and environmental effects of exposure to static, power frequency, and radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic radiation. Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Korea, and China are expected to adopt versions of EMC requirements soon. All this and more sound the arrival of EMC into mainstream engineering of many of today's appliances.
