Abstract
Results are presented from tests by physical modeling of instrumented buried pipes. These tests were conducted at natural size in a special set up in the structures lab at the Javeriana University in Bogotá. The soil structure interaction for a concrete and a PVC 600 mm diameter pipes are studied. The buried pipes were loaded at the surface, and the applied loads and vertical as well as horizontal displacements were measured both at the surface and in several points within the model. Tests were conducted in the lab to determine the stiffness and strength of the pipes, as well as for the typical soil used in Bogota for the pipes foundation. This soil corresponds to clayey sand clay locally called "recebo". The data from the tests was used to calibrate finite element models to analyze the soil structure interaction in this problem.
