Abstract
Education Management Information Systems or EMIS is increasingly recognized as an alternative educational data management system that complements traditional manual administrative mechanisms in educational institutions. The growing use of EMIS across countries reflects a rising level of system adoption within the educational community. Numerous technology adoption theories have been developed to examine the factors that influence users’ acceptance of new systems, and the evolution of these theories aims to respond to emerging challenges in technology implementation within the education sector. Understanding EMIS adoption is therefore essential for formulating strategies to support the development and effective implementation of future systems. This study seeks to classify the technology adoption journey within the EMIS context to identify the driving factors that influence adoption at successive stages. Using a literature review approach, this research applies the UTAUT framework, a synthesis of multiple preceding technology adoption theories that emphasise individuals’ perceptions of technology. The novelty of this study lies in refining UTAUT adoption determinants specifically for the EMIS environment. Practically, the findings offer valuable insights for policymakers and educational managers by highlighting critical factors that enhance technology adoption, thereby informing strategic planning for future EMIS development.
