Abstract

7 Cases of optic pathway gliomas, constituting 1.4% of the tumors of the central nervous system, are described. Chiasmal tumors were commoner than optic nerve tumors. No case of purely intraorbital optic nerve glioma was encountered. Clinical features are enumerated and methods of surgical management outlined. In contrast to the excellent results of the optic nerve glioma treatment the results of treatment of chiasmal gliomas with intracranial hypertension were less satisfactory.
