Abstract

This paper handles the problem of consanguinity in French medicine of the second half of 19th century. During a few years, French doctors were very concerned about the issue of marriages between close relatives. Many thesis, articles and books were completely dedicated to describe the consequences of those marriages over offspring. This article analyzes the two most important theories about that new chapter of medicine.
