Abstract

This article analyses the use of virtual classrooms at the University of Cundinamarca. For this purpose, three stages were employed: i) statistics on availability and use, ii) professor's perception, and iii) student perception. The results show that usage rate decreased in recent years and that systems engineering and electronic engineering programs use virtual classrooms the most. Professors assert that virtual classrooms are relevant in the educational context, but that platform management makes its use difficult. Although virtual classrooms possess a suitable environment for students, students express that virtual classrooms are not as effective for communicating with their professors. Professors and students agree that virtual classrooms are a complement for education that reinforces the learning process. But professors and students also consider that the main disadvantage are the technical flaws found in virtual classrooms. Overall, it is concluded that professors and students have positive perceptions of virtual classrooms.
