Abstract
The article examines the history of television, particularly comedic television, through queer theory and concludes that television portrays antisocial agitation despite epitomizing the mainstream. Particular attention is given to the proliferation of camp style and queer humor in the television of the 1950s and 1960s. The author goes on to discuss the role of marginal and homosexual characters in situational comedies (sitcoms).
