Abstract
By using an in-line erbium-doped fiber amplifier with 20.5 dB gain, transmission of an 11 Gbit/s NRZ signal over a total length of 151 km of dispersion-shifted fiber was achieved, resulting in a new record bit rate distance product of 1.66 Tbit/s-km at 11 Gbit/s. © 1989 IEEE
