Abstract

This paper exploits the differential geometry of ruled surfaces in terms of line geometry to develop a method for tool positioning and path planning in flank or cylindrical milling. The method presented results in more control over the machining error by reducing the effects of over and under cutting in the flank milling operation. © 2007 Springer-Verlag London Limited.
