Abstract
Utilization of oily keruing wood for laminated wood product has not been optimal because of the appearance of extractive substance (oil) on wood surface which affects the bonding process. This study is to examine the effect of extracting the extractive material from the oily-keruing on several characteristics of laminated wood. Solving out the extractive was done by boiling the wood in ethanol solvent of 35% (v/v). The testing method on the laminated wood referred to the standard of JAS-2003. The results show that boiling treatment in ethanol can improve wettability significantly up to 54% and increase the bonding strength from 1.41 kg/cm to 77,90 kg/cm (583%) on dry-test and from 2.66 kg/cm to 8.41 kg/cm (216%) on wettest. The treatment also decrease delamination of the laminated wood from 107% to 36%. Further, the laminated wood made from oily-keruing wood after the treatment is recommendable for indoor product component.
