Abstract

The genus Moneta O. P.-Cambridge, 1870, is revived from a synonym of the genus Episinus Latreille, 1809, and spiders known as “Episinus” in Japan and Taiwan are revised and newly divided into two genera. Five species of Episinus, i.e., affinis, chikunii, kitazawai, nubiIus and punctisparsus, and 5 species of Moneta i.e., caudifer, mirabilis, tanikawai, spiniger and yoshimurai are redescribed. Moneta mirablis is recorded from Taiwan for the first time, and the male is described for the first time. Two new species, Episinus makiharai and Episinus yoshidai are described from Taiwan. © 1994, Arachnological Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
