Abstract

This research aims to assess the impact of professor transformational leadership on the emotional intelligence of students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of La Serena, Chile. A relational model with ten hypotheses is proposed, using structural equations through the partial least squares method. The results show that intellectual stimulation is a consequence of the positive influence of both idealized influence and individualized consideration, where intellectual stimulation variance is explained by 67.1% by the model, while interpersonal intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence are explained by 16.1% and 21%, respectively. It is concluded that it is important to promote the development of professor transformational leadership towards strengthening student emotional intelligence, with the purpose of training professionals capable of understanding and managing their own and their colleagues’ emotions at future jobs.
