Abstract

6 This paper proposes a camera placement framework that incorporates characteristics of 7 complex construction jobsites. The proposed framework consists of three main processes: (1) 8 identification of visual monitoring determinants, influencing factors, and camera placement 9 conditions, (2) problem definition and mathematical modeling, and (3) hybrid simulation-10 optimization of camera placement on construction jobsites. To evaluate the performance of the 11 proposed framework, the case study for actual construction jobsite was performed. The results 12 of our case study show the potential of the proposed framework in finding the optimal number, 13 types, locations, and orientations of cameras for jobsite visual monitoring. This research has 14 four main contributions: (1) identification of critical elements to be considered when installing 15 fixed cameras on complex construction jobsites, (2) development of systematic framework for 16 the camera placement on the jobsites, (3) quantitative validation of the effectiveness of the 17 camera placement for decision-makings, and (4) support for camera setup to perform the jobsite 18 visual monitoring more effectively and efficiently.
