Available : Joseph Retrieved : 04 8 ABSTRACT Investigations were conducted at four locations in Ghana during 2011 growing season to evaluate some confectionery groundnutaccessionsreactionstoplantparasiticnematodesinfection.SixteengroundnutaccessionswereevaluatedatFumesua,Wenchi,EjuraandAtebubuina4x4latticedesignwiththreereplications.Seedsweresowninfour-rowplots,fivemetreslongatspacingof50cmbetweenand20cmwithinrows.Plantparasiticnematodespopulationsper200cm3soil,daysofgroundnutto50%anthesis,daystomaturity,pods/plantandpodyieldwereanalyzedusingGenStatstatisticalpackage.Threeaccessions;ICGV97040,ICGV97051andICGV97058significantly(P<0.05)reducednematodespopulationsby(92,94and79%),(92,89and97%)and(86,79and100%)inMeloidogynearenaria,PratylenchusbrachyurusandAphelenchoidesarachidiscomparedwithICGV97045,ICGV97047andICGV97049respectivelyatWenchi.ICGV97051whichyieldedthehighest(3.2t/ha)wasapproximately97%higherthanICGV97061(0.1t/ha)thelowestyieldingaccession.ICGV97051wasidentifiedasthemostpromisingaccessiononaccountofhighyieldingandnematodesuppressionpotential.Keywords:Aphelenchoidesarachidis,Arachishypogaea,Meloidogynearenaria,Pratylenchusbrachyurus,Rotylenchulusreniformis,Scutellonemabradys.INTRODUCTIONAgricultureisthemainstayofGhana"seconomywithabout60%oftheruralfolksdependingonitfortheirlivelihood.Oneofthemosteconomicandversatilecropscultivatedinthecountryisgroundnut,ArachishypogaeaL.Theleguminouscrophasbeenlistedasoneofthe20cropplantsthatstandbetweenmanandstarvation(Wittwer,1981).Theseedisrichincaloriesandcontains25%protein.Groundnutmaybeboiled,roasted,fried,groundintopasteorcrushedforoil(DicksonandDeWaele,2005).Oilextractionalsoproducesaprotein-richby-productthatmaybeusedforhumanconsumptionifprocessedfromanediblegradegroundnut;otherwiseitisusedforlivestockfeed(DicksonandDeWaele,2005).Besidesthenutritionpotential,groundnuthastremendoushealthbenefits.Eatinggroundnutlowersaperson"sriskofweightgain,promoteshearthealth,preventscertaincardiovasculardiseases,reducesriskofcoronaryandAlzheimer"sdiseasesandlowerscholesterolinthebloodstream(Blomhoffetal.,2006;AlperandMattes,2003;Awadetal.,2000;Morrisetal.,2004).Theimportanceofthecropisinformedbyitscultivationonallthesixcontinentsoftheworld.InAfrica,SenegalandNigeriaarethemajorproducersofthecrop.TodiversifyGhana"smarketopportunities,researcheffortiscurrentlybeingdirectedtowardsthepromotionofconfectionery
