Abstract

Rice plants were cooled at various stages during panicle development in the natural light rooms of the phytotron. The greatest decreases in yield were induced by cooling at the meiotic stage of pollen mother cells. The decreases were mainly caused by failure of fertilization. Pollination experiment indicated that the fertilizing ability of pistils was virtually not injured by severe cooling treatment. © 1969, CROP SCIENCE SOCIETY OF JAPAN. All rights reserved.
