Abstract
The reality of life has been reflected in the language used through various concepts, words and expressions. But in describing the life of reality, the language has its limitations. This paper attempts to discuss how language expresses reality in life, describes the form of language used to express reality in life and reality of life expressed through language. This study uses text analysis. Selected study material from Budget reports 2018 was selected and downloaded from the Internet has been analyzed using theory of General Semantics. The finding from this study shows that the language used in media reports on Budget 2018 illustrates the reality of life and vice versa. The use of phrases, 'happy news' (Data 1), 'bad economy', (Data 2), 'direct contact with the nucleus' (Data 3), 'seeking new capital' (Data 4) and 'inclusive budget' 6) has illustrated the reality of life in Malay through the elements of entity, reference, space and time. In the meantime, the use of 'sweet to the mouth' (Data 3), 'dumping' 'their capital downstream' and 'seeking new capital' (Data 4) show realities in life in terms of reference and perception. Furthermore, the use of the phrase 'bad economy is bad', 'feels squeaky' and 'looking and opening up' shows a reference that relates to the reality of today's life. Thus it can be concluded that the Semantics application to this study has proven the language in the reality of life and the reality of life through the language. © 2018, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Press.
