Abstract

Newly qualified Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) holders may be deficient in a range of skills relevant to the work of a consultant physician, often due to a lack of adequate career planning. Good clinical skills and a patient-centred approach are extremely important, but there is work to suggest that the non-medical aspects of consultant work are not sufficiently addressed during higher specialist training. © Royal College of Physicians 2014.
