Objective This article proposes the study of current models of urban-regional planning and urban design, for the evaluation of urban behaviour towards sustainability; both of the cities, and of their territories of influence in relation to social, physical and environmental dynamics. Methodology Being a synthesis work, the methodological approach of axes and indicators and the results of the assessment of the component built on 10 cities under study are presented. Conclusions Thus, under the multiplicity of prioritized factors and dimensions, measurements are studied in cities of the first hierarchical order that make up a particular enlarged Caribbean region, with the aim of constructing a conscious radiography of the urban image; which serves to issue recommendations for intervention, consolidate a baseline, and subsequently be able to evaluate through indicators the different projects that emerged in the formulation of the regional planning instrument. All this, under the same criteria of sustainability, functionality and territorial identity previously defined. Originality The study contributes to the parametrized search for the growth, development, ordering, inclusion and articulation of urban relations, as well as establishing potential contributions in terms of the indicators evaluated for future urban projects.
